Whieldon Greatbach type teapot Staffordshire pottery

A rare Staffordshire pottery teapot with a creamware body and coloured glaze decoration.
The teapot is modelled with a relief of an country scene with a rather fine country house or mansion as the centre focus. The lid of the teapot has a delightful figure of a sheep.
This feature reflects the rural scene on the main body of the teapot which has sheep and cows grazing in the fields and swans on the water.
The relief modelling of the house and the surrounding trees are very well executed. The coloured glazes are also exceptional and are Thomas Whieldon/Wedgwood type. This teapot is previously unrecorded and is very rare and in good condition with only minor restoration. A wonderful example of English pottery from the mid 18th century.
