Staffordshire pottery saltglaze figure of a bear in the form of a jug and cover, the beasts head is detachable and could be used asa cup.
This stunning naive piece was made in the mid 18th century and makes a bold statement.
The eyes,paws, teeth and tongue are decorated in a brown slip which add to the stylized representation.
The figure can be displayed sitting on haunches or in a seated upright the movaeble head also enables variances of stance.
