Staffordshire pottery pearlware toboacco box with figures of dog and sheep finials
Reference: 4166
Dated: c. 1820 Staffordshire
Early 19th century Staffordshire pottery pearlware glaze tobacco box with an inner lid.
The oval shaped box is relief moulded with images of a fox hunting scene and decorated with vibrant enamel colours.
The finials are especially interesting with images of dogs and a sheep, the hounds attached to the side are especially delightful amusing additions.
The scale of the piece is perfect, small and beautifully formed, a gem from the Staffordshire potters.
The inner lid which tampered the tobacco is a feature of these rare boxes, not surprisingly they have often gone astray .
