Staffordshire pottery massive scale pearlware figure of a ewe circa 1820 period.

A very rare Staffordshire pottery pearlware figure of a ewe standing on a grassy base.
The sheep's coat is rendered in a well executed shredded clay technique which is highly effective.
The green grassy base is 15 inches long and is decorated with tiny coloured flowers.
The back of the figure has provision for holding twigs or perhaps an advertising card.
The scale of the figure cannot be under estimated , it is probably the largest sheep figure produced in pearlware. Previously unrecorded in any of the standard references it is likely to be the only example extant.
Attribution has so far remained illusive and the Staffordshire potter of this figure is still unknown.
