Pair of antique Staffordshire figures of the Royal Children riding the Royal family's pet St. Bernard dogs. Queen Victoria had a very strong fondness for dogs, the Staffordshire potters took advantage of the publics interests in her life style. Many examples of dogs were made, the most famous the iconic Spaniel. This pair of St Bernards are one of the rarest versions produced in pottery, they have great appeal with the playful children riding them as if they were ponies.The pair are very well modelled and have exceptionally good coloring which denoted they were one of the earliest examples made of this model.
