Antique Staffordshire pottery figure of a couple being married by the blacksmith at Gretna Green Scotland just over the English border. The Marraige Act of 1823 enabled couples to be married without parental consent.However, to this day, marraiges are still performed in Gretna Green.Romance is not totally dead.
