A fine set of figures in pink luster with enamel colours of emblematic of the Four Seasons.
This rare and wonderfully modelled and decorated set is marked under the bases Dixon Austin and Co. It is increasingly rare to acquire a full and completely original set of these wonderful and decorative figures. The figures are in fine order.

The Four Seasons are an ancient decorative motif. Usually each season is represented as an allegorical figure bearing traditional iconographic symbols. The Romans typically represented the seasons as voluptuous goddesses known as the Horae. This imagery carried over into neoclassical art and became especially popular in the late 18th century and early 19th century.

Medium: pink luster pottery earthenware ceramic

Current Condition Fine unrestored condition apart from one minute scuff mark on one figure which has been re-touched.
