Reference: 5257

Dated: 1805 England

Antique pearlware glazed pottery pitcher.

EXHIBITION....IF THESE POTS COULD TALK.

This jug was made over 200 years ago it bears the date 1805.
It is most unusual and rare to find tradesmen's tool and implements illustrated on a piece of English pottery. The tools in this case relate to a shoe and boot maker and show in fine detail all the tools of his trade.
The jug would almost certainly have been given as a gift for James Hucknall the boot maker in 1805. I just marvel at these named pieces from this very early 19th century period which is so full of history. If only this pot could talk it maybe able to tell us a little more about the James the owner and the life he led in those turbulent years.
