Pearlware bust of Queen Charlotte, Staffordshire pottery early 19th century, England
Reference: 4779
Dated: c. 1815 to c. 1820 STaffordshire England
A very rare English pearlware pottery bust probably representing Queen Charlotte the wife of King George 111. The head is modelled on a square base which is decorated with purple enamel.
The rendition is very naive and striking with strong definition. Queen Charlotte was a very interesting character (1744-1818) she founded Kew Gardens, bore 15 children (13 of whom survived to adulthood), and was a patron of the arts.
