English Staffordshire pottery figure of a Lion impressed Wood and Caldwell
Reference: 0018
Dated: c. 1815 Burslem Staffordshire England
A fine example of a Wood and Caldwell pottery figure of a lion on a base.
This Staffordshire pottery produced some of the best ceramics in earthenware at the beginning of the 19th century. The figure of the lion is perhaps one of the most iconic models produced by Wood and Caldwell. The quality of modelling captures a regal sentiment of the king of the animal kingdom. This particular figure is the best model I have seen and is a wonderful example of the potters art.
