English slipware pitcher with scraffito checker board design mid 18th century antique period.

A very rare slipware pitcher with a checkerboard type decoration in brown and cream.
The cream slip overlay is cut to expose the brown ground, a skilled technique on slipware.
The form is the classic baluster shape much in vogue in the mid 18th century, with a sharply formed beak and a nice "kick" on the terminal of the handle.

Medium: slipware slip earthenware ceramic pottery

Current Condition No restoration with only minor wear commensurate to age.

Provenance: Retains labels from Chappell Collection and the London dealer Jonathan Horne
