Early Staffordshire pottery figure in saltglaze of a fashionably dressed gentleman. c1745

Reference: 4951

Dated: 1745 Staffordshire England

Staffordshire white salt-glazed stoneware figure of a fashionable gentleman.
These early naive pieces are increasingly rare, apart from the 275 year journey they are so understated that previous generations gave them little heed. Today they represent the very early days of pottery production in England and bring a classic and charming naiveness from those times.

Medium: white saltglaze salt-glaze stoneware pottery ceramic

Current Condition Feint stress hairline at base probably made during making.

Provenance: Irvin and Anita Schorsch Collection USA.
