Creamware body pottery fox head stirrup cup. circa 1780 antique period England.

Reference: 4347

Dated: c. 1780 Staffordshire English

A fine rare early creamware body pottery fox head stirrup cup well decorated in brown and green underglaze oxide colours.
One of the earliest forms of stirrup cup made in English pottery. The slightly flattened shaped head and ears gives a hint of menace whilst a degree of vibrant awareness is portrayed in the rendition of the eyes.
There are minor chips at the ears which have been left unrestored, this to preserve the honesty of this early example, they do not detract from the appearance of the cup made in the 1780 period Staffordshire.
