Antique Staffordshire pottery figure of a tiger with bocage from the Dale Pottery .
Reference: 0434
Dated: c. 1810 to c. 1820 Staffordshire England
A very rare antique Staffordshire pottery figure of a prowling tiger with bocage.
The figure is well modeled with good strong enamels. Interestingly the pottery figure left the John Dale pottery workshops minus a leg!. This does not detract from the appeal of the figure and to a point is actually adds an extra feature. Staffordshire figures with quirks such as this are always welcome finds.
The figure of this ferocious feline is executed in a naive fashion which adds a touch of comedy to the appeal of the piece.
The John Dale Pottery was located in Burslem Staffordshire, there is scant knowledge of him personally apart from the date of his marraige in 1825.
