Antique Staffordshire pottery figure of a camel with fine flowered bocage c1815

Reference: 0760

Dated: c. 1815 Staffordshire

A fine and rare antique Staffordshire pottery figure of a standing bactrian camel.
The bocage on this very rare figure is exceptionally well decorated and modelled with a profusion of flowers front and back. Camels were a novelty and exotic creature in Britain in the early 19th century, the figure was inspired, perhaps, by the performing animal troupes and menageries touring the land in the period.
The figure has great charm with a warm touch of amusement and humanity.
