Staffordshire pearlware bocage pottery figures by Walton of the Lion and Unicorn.
These charming figures are increasingly rare and prized as part of a collection or as a statement of taste and style in a decorative setting.The Lion and the Unicorn are heraldic symbols of the United Kingdom. They are heraldic supporters appearing in the full Royal coat of arms. The lion stands for England and the unicorn for Scotland. The combination dates back to the 1603 accession of James I of England who was already James VI of Scotland.
The figures are the work of the Staffordshire master potter John Walton and bear his famous scroll mark on the reverse.
