Portobello is a town on the outskirts of Edinburgh, today pieces from this area are prized and recognised for their unique style and folk art appeal.
Many of the figures have a certain childish and simple character which gives them a timeless appeal, quite often there is a touch of humour to the piece which may reflect the character of the makers.
