ANTIQUE SCOTTISH POTTERY FIGURE OF A GOAT

A rare figure of a standing goat from the Scottish potters.
Several versions of the model have been produced and this particular creamware body with manganese decoration is perhaps the rarest. Attribution the to the place of manufacture has often been a point of conjecture, however, recent information denotes Gordons's Pottery Prestonpans as the maker.

Provenance: Collection of a titled English Lady.

Literature: Ref. your prattware figure of Paul Fry on a goat I thought you might like to know that it and all the goats without figures were produced at George Gordon's pottery in Prestonpans.

The mould for the goat survives and is in the ceramic store of the National Museums Scotland. (RE.G.Haggerty).
