Antique pottery pitcher in blue and white transfer "Success to all Flowerists", Thomas & Ales Hardman 1792
Reference: 6224
Dated: 1792 Welsh or English
Antique pottery pearlware glazed pitcher in blue and white underglaze transfer decorations. "Success to all Flowerists", Thomas & Ales Hardman 1792 is located under the spout whist the two sides have an image of a male figure seated on a bench holding a frothing jug of ale, the inscription underneath reads " Dear Tom this brown Jug". The term Flowerist may be an early rendition of Florist and perhaps Dear Tom alludes to the Thomas Hardman perhaps a gift from Ales which is probably a mis-spelling of Alice.
A very rare example with a unique reference to Flowerists.
