Antique Staffordshire pottery figure group titled "THE RED BARN".
This very rare group commemorated the grisly tale related to the murder of Maria Martin in the Red Barn in 1827 and was the work of the Obadiah Sherratt Pottery. The group shows the figure William Corder standing at the door beckoning Maria to enter inside. The ghoulish nature of the event fascinated the public and became a theme for plays and songs of the period.
