ANTIQUE ENGLISH POTTERY SILVER LUSTRE BOUGH POTS CIRCA 1815

Reference: 1224

Dated: c. 1815 ENGLISH

A truly stunning pair of antique pottery silver resist decorated bough pots.
The resist decoration is exceptional on this pair which were made in Staffordshire or possibly Yorkshire potteries in the early 19th century circa 1815/20 period.

EXHIBITION...IF THESE POTS COULD TALK.

This pair of Bough Pots or Bulb Pots are perhaps the best decorated that I have seen.
Thankfully this pair have journeyed through 200 years with the original covers. They were made at the height of the Regency period and exude the classic grace and style of the period.
Bough pots were used for displaying flowering bulbs such as daffodils and were the height of fashion in the early 19th century in houses of the wealthy middle and upper class. They have flat backs for standing against the wall over the mantle piece, they can also be placed back to back to form a circular display for a table.
I acquired this pair from the personal collection of a much respected retired antique dealer but I would really like to know which country house this pair adorned in 1820
Who did buy them, where did they live, what did they do, all part of the mystery of antiques. They must have looked enchanting with the candle and firelight dancing on them.
