Antique English pottery Sherratt Staffordshire pearlware figure of a lion with bocage.
The figure is modelled standing with the front paw resting on a ball (probably inspired by the Medici figures). Lions were also a strong symbol of Britains power in the early 19th century and the figure would appeal to these patriotic sentiments.
The power symobolised by the lion, the king of the animals, is diminished by the pretty flowers and bocage and the smiling features modelled of the head of the beast.These whimsical features render the piece in a slightly comical light which gives great delight.

Current Condition Minor restoration to two chipped leaves.
